Senior Technical Director -Animation
Job Summary
This is for our DALLAS Location.The Senior Technical Director is a production position. The Senior Technical Director works closely with the production Supervising Technical Director and production artists to support the technical execution of a project. Technical directors guide projects through the production pipeline by validating production assets, troubleshooting scenes, writing tools, and addressing technical challenges across all disciplines of the CG pipeline. The successful candidates have the ability to identify deficiencies in the technical process and to research, design, and implement solutions to enhance production workflow. The technical director must work well in a team-oriented production environment, where daily proactive problem solving and technical innovation are expected.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs advanced technical support for artists working on shots and assets in Maya, Nuke, Mari, and Houdini.
- Supervises other TDs in semi-automated technical checks, publishes, and other data-movement tasks.
- Facilitates faster workflows with scripting (Mel, Python, or C++) at an dvanced level: scripts perform higher level functions outside the scope of a single scene, codes against Studio Tools standards and APIs.
- Specifies and prototypes high-level production tools and workflows, works closely with Pipeline Tools developers to create and delivery studio-wide solutions.
- Collaborates with Supervising Technical Director and CG Supervisor on production strategy and show-wide resource and support planning.
- Develops advanced Studio Tools using departmental standards, conventions, and APIs.
- Develops architecture components and contributes high-level software development strategy.
- Adheres to standards established by the team, contributes recommendations and establishes standards.
- Works with artists to define scope of tools, serves as lead developer on mid-to-large sized projects.
- Operates with a service-based, positive attitude.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Film, Animation, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of production experience
- Possesses middle-level understanding of Linux commands.
- Possesses advanced-level understanding of Python and C++ (plug-in development).
- Possesses advanced-level understanding of the pipeline: knows function of all departments, the specific toolsets they use, and understands the functional components of each department at an advanced level.
- Possesses advanced-level of understanding of render queuing system (Qube).
- Possesses strong understanding of core functionality of Maya, Nuke, Mari, and Houdini and is expected to devise original or alternate solutions to challenging artistic and technical problems in production.
- Can identify and resolve advanced shot and asset technical issues.
- Requires minimal assistance from a mentor/supervisor.
- Ability to mentor more junior personnel.
Senior Matte Painter
Job Summary
This position is for our DALLAS location!! HOUSING and transportation is provided for the length of the picture. Starts 1/5/2015 – 4/25/2015.
This is an onsite position at our Dallas, Texas Studio location. Our Senior Matte Painter will work directly with the Matte Painter Supervisor, Visual Effects Supervisor & Art Department to create innovative matte paintings for 3D animated features. Minimum experience for applications is 5 years on high-end Film and Animation projects. Feature Animation experience and management experience is required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Crafting matte paintings for both 2D and 3D techniques.
- Professional mastery of skills to create visually stunning Matte Paintings which match and marry to the film’s style and 3D requirements.
- Primarily a painting and management position with some technical abilities with Nuke projections.
Education and Experience Requirements
- This Senior Matte Painter position requires 5+ years of experience creating matte paintings for high-end Animated Feature Films.
- Photorealism skills required with the ability to translate those into stylized Matte Paintings that matches Art Department Concept and Key Art.
- Professional mastery level of basic art skills including: photography, film making, painting, drawing, composition and color theory.
- Professional level mastery of Adobe products and Foundry Nuke.
- Experience with Maya is a big plus.
- Able to work on either Mac, Linux and PC platforms.
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks independently while working within the framework of a team.
- Ability to lead a team to problem solve and meet tight deadlines.
- Detailed orientated and able to contribute to the daily artistic, technical and, management dialogue of filmaking.
- Able to offer visual and technical solutions as well and give and take constructive criticism.
- Familiarity with Stereoscopic digital process.
- Works well with others and open to new ideas and processes.
- Desire to mentor others and take ownership over processes and workflow.
- Strong Portfolio that clearly demonstrates skill level.
- Bachelors in Fine Arts, Visual Effects or Animation programs from a reputable College or University preferred.
