Animator

 Summary:

The Animator will be responsible for producing animated elements, shots and sequences under the direction of the Lead Animator and the Animation Supervisor. The Animator will be expected to deliver key frame animation, as well as animation using motion capture data, to be used in a live action feature film or commercial.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Candidate reports to Lead Animator or Animation Supervisor, depending upon size of team and established hierarchy
Assignments will include animation tests, shots & finals; to be delivered to satisfaction & as per delivery schedule.
Work should demonstrate ability to define character personality, create fluid motion, organic movement, and storytelling.
Artist should be versed artistically as well as technically and have a show reel example of personal work and achievements.
Artist needs to be able to function as a solo performer, and as part of a team. This includes possessing professional communication skills, understanding and responding to revisions or iterations, and being able to execute animation under direction and interpretation.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

Candidate should be a proficient Maya user, with demonstrable technical and artistic achievements.
Other animation software experience (e.g., 3DS Max, Houdini, Proprietary Packages) are considered a plus.
Person should have at least 3 years production-related experience.
Qualifying collegiate or graduate degrees and awards are preferred, but not required.

CG Supervisor


 Summary:

The CG Supervisor oversees the through-put of shots through the 3D pipeline, partnering with the Compositing Supervisor to ensure delivery of assigned work on schedule and on budget. They are also responsible for the implementation of an efficient and effective approach that allows the artists to focus on creating the highest quality images with a minimum of resources within the production schedule and budget.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Partners with the DFX and/or Digital Producer in scheduling/updating the tasks on the show
Partners with the Production Coordinators in task management
Participates in turnover meetings, shot breakdowns, and re-bidding over the course of the show
Participates in the staffing aspects of the show
Takes responsibility for the technical aspects of the show to properly assess show needs
Responsible for overseeing the facility pipeline as it relates to current show
Responsible for attending Facility Tech Meetings across shows
With the support of the DFX Supervisor, implements the technical requirements and approaches for the show
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the tools and techniques in use within the facility pipeline and offers creative solutions to the DFX and team
Provides concise direction and feedback to Leads and artists on the floor, focusing effort on the critical parts of the shot
Delegates to Team Leads and/or artists to ensure focus on technique and methodology
Mediates discussions within the Leads and Artists, acts as an escalation point for the Leads and resolves conflicts between the Leads as needed
Anticipates show challenges and identifies solutions with the DFX, maintaining an ongoing focus on optimization and streamlining throughout the life of the show
Identifies and utilizes tools and techniques which improve productivity and the quality of the work; avoids reinvention of the wheel or duplication of effort both within the show and across the facility
May participate in the bidding process and strategizes on creative approach for Features working with the Head of CG and Bidding Producer to accurately estimate work-load and resources in creating production budgets
Collaborates with other CG Supervisors and Compositing Supervisors in the facility and promotes a positive and productive work environment
Responsible to the Visual Effects Supervisor in realizing his vision
Responsible for the success/failure of the artist departments on a show
Ensures effective communication between disciplines within the show and partners with peer group to ensure critical information is shared across shows

Education, Experience and Skills Required:


Minimum of 6 years of artist experience across 2 disciplines

Minimum of 2 years of Lead experience in feature film VFX required

Strong knowledge of the entire post-production process relating to visual effects

Must have a sense of strong team dynamics and a positive morale generating style

Must have strong problem solving mentality and/or the ability to accurately place people who can solve a particular problem

Compositing Supervisor


Summary:
The digital Compositor takes multiple diverse elements, however they were created, and blends them together artistically into a seamless, photorealistic image. Skillfully makes it appear as if the elements were all part of the same scene utilizing various compositing techniques to accomplish the task.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for internal pipeline, communication and efficiency within the Compositing department
Manage the compositing department, which consists of 40+ compositing artists.
Provide artistic and creative leadership to a dynamic team of artists.
Work closely with Visual Effects Supervisors, Producers and the department heads to design, develop and produce large and/or small-scale digital composites for use in feature films.
Determine best approach to solve compositing challenges and develop final overall look that far exceeds client expectations.
Strong leadership and organizational skills are a must.
Must have good understanding of CG projects, photography and film.
Should be a reference guide to the compositors, but also be able to work effectively alone.
Proactively seek new technologies, techniques, and processes that will benefit the compositing department.

7-8 years of node based compositing software experience (Nuke, Shake, Fusion)

Senior Digital Production Manager - VFX
 

 Summary:

The Senior Digital Production Manager is responsible for the scheduling and management of all aspects of digital production for feature film visual effects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

With the Digital Producer, creates a schedule for all phases of production and works with Digital Artist Managers to assign digital artists to the work
Responsible for tracking billed artist weeks against the bid
Maintains hold schedule and authorizes releases for all digital artists
Creates and maintains task assignments for the teams; anticipates potential staffing changes based on development or creative shifts through the show
Responsible for artist timecards and vacation requests
Maintains and publishes information regarding client notes and changes in planned work for Supervisors and artists
Provides information to support the VFX Producer with bidding and change orders
Provides support to VFX and show supervisors as needed
Manages the task assignments and priorities for the VFX Editor
Works with DFX and CG Supervisors to create render processor, disk space, and software projections for the duration of the show
Manages daily digital resource utilization and acts as the primary contact on the Production team regarding the allocation of show resources; communicates daily with the show DPA regarding changes to priorities, etc.
Oversees the setup of show-specific production needs including view stations, war rooms, etc.
Manages show space planning and artist moves with the Digital Artist Managers and Facility Operations

FX Artist


 Summary:

The FX Artist works closely with the FX lead and FX TDs to create high quality effects including rigid body and particle dynamics, volume modeling and rendering, procedural geometry generation and fluid dynamics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and animate high quality, photo-real effects (fire, smoke, explosions, debris, clouds, etc) that meet all technical and aesthetic standards for the project.
Work within the show structure and production deadlines to complete all tasks.
Work closely with Lighting Artist and Compositors to ensure all effects will work smoothly within the show pipeline.
Produce look tests based on provided reference materials.
Take direction from FX Leads and FX TDs as well as provide guidance and mentorship to other FX Artists.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

3+ years experience as an FX Artist creating photo-real effects elements for feature films.
Degree in Animation, Arts, Fine Arts or equivalent production experience.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics a plus.
Expert knowledge of any/all of the following; rigid body and particle dynamics, volume modeling and rendering, procedural geometry generation and fluid dynamics.
Strong understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena.

Integration Artist

 

 Summary:

The Integration Artist tracks and sets up shots and sequences and sees them through the integration pipeline from start to finish.

Lighting Artist

The Lighting Artist will light shots and sequences and may participate in some Look Development. The Lighting Artist will work within the lighting and rendering pipeline to see shots through from start to finish.

The Modeler will produce photorealistic models from scratch and see them through the modeling pipeline from start to finish.

Pipeline Developer

 Summary:

The Pipeline Developer would participate in a variety of infrastructure and application development tasks, from continued development on job system management tools, to continued support and development of proprietary render queue and other critical path applications, to designing common UI elements and interfaces for both types of application.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Design, implementation, and maintenance of in-house pipeline and production support tools.
Setup and maintenance of build environments, release structures and coding standards to be used with the Digital Domain Software Department.
Design and development of common UI elements and the integration of those into a variety of internal software applications.
Design, implementation, and maintenance of in-house disk management tools and production support tools, including third-party management tools such as Tactic and Shotgun

Production Coordinator, VFX

 Summary:

The Production Coordinator is responsible for the assignment and tracking of tasks for the assigned area of responsibility. Facilitates the movement of shots between teams, coordinates daily reviews and communicates status updates to ensure the delivery of shots on schedule. Provides administrative support to the production management team and show supervisors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the DP or DPM, schedules and tracks progress of tasks for assigned artists or sequences in the production tracking system;
Maintains production tracking system revisions, omits, and shot length changes, notifies the affected crew as needed;
Partners with other Production personnel to ensure shots are scheduled and delivered in a timely manner;
Follows up with artists on a daily basis to ensure task deliveries remain on schedule, communicates any schedule changes to appropriate artists, Supervisors and Production team as needed;
Coordinates all client deliveries, both physical deliveries and digital deliveries via FTP, with Production Services department; maintains log of all deliveries;
Manages meeting schedule and walkthroughs for Supervisors; publishes notes as needed;
Responsible for setup of dailies, nightlies, and all client reviews in the Screening Room and view stations; publishes notes for all review sessions;
Leads nightly production update for assigned area of responsibility;
Acts as primary point of contact for internal Editorial;
Completes reference research for elements for Supervisors and area leads;
Oversees run requests and petty cash;
This is a cross departmental position that will require management of pipeline issues;
Liaison with Production Coordinator in Venice Studio to coordinate cross discipline tasks, deliveries, questions, statuses and approvals.

Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field;
3+ years production experience in visual effects or feature animation;
Demonstrable experience in highly technical, dynamic departments is a must;

 Render/IO Administrator

 Summary:

A Render/IO administrator is and entry level position responsible for hands on management of facility resources including Render Processors, Diskspace, and I/O. A Render/IO Administrator works closely with Digital Production Administrators (DPA) to ensure show priorities and facility guidelines are being met while working to meet optimal efficiency of Facility Resources.

Rigger


Summary:

The Rigger will be responsible for the rigging of various characters with a skeleton, clothing, hair, and deformation controls, and will report to the Lead Rigger. A Rigger will be expected to have at least 5 continuous years of production rigging experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Generate a variety of hero and digital double character rigs for Feature Film
Produce custom built rigs for biped, quadrupeds, multiple limbs, multiple heads and wings
Utilize and extend DD's existing Python and Mel based toolset for generating hero and background character rigs
Work with the Animation Department to ensure the successful handoff and execution of character rigs for their use, including troubleshooting rigs for potential problems/limits

Minimum 5 years experience with character rigging (and modeling) and scripting
In-depth knowledge of Maya rigging tools including joint and skeleton creation, skinning and weighting, IK setup, blend-shapes, and deformers

 Summary:

The Roto Artist is responsible for creating mattes that accurately reflect the motion of a particular object over a series of frames. Painting may be required to remove unwanted artifacts, reconstruct a background or digitally correct a render or composite.
