Compositing Supervisor



Position Overview

The Compositing Supervisor will supervise, monitor, direct and influence all aspects of high-end, feature film compositing across multiple projects. This position is directly responsible for ensuring the disciplines of compositing, roto & paint are able to seamlessly integrate multi-pass cg assets into live action plates. Your primary focus is on ensuring your leads are supported in managing their own teams' performance while representing your department's interest across the wider production environment.

You are an established leader who is respected by your peers and those you have previously reported to. Responsibilities

  • Ensure RSP delivers quality shots on time and on budget.
  • Set quality expectations for your department.
  • Manage lead performance issues by regularly meeting with those reporting directly to you.
  • Help leads resolve issues they face in dealing with their own crew, resolving conflicts as required.
  • Work with VFX Supervisor and VFX Producer to build client confidence early.
  • Work with production, pipeline, lighting, environment & effects teams on efficiency measures to improve all aspects of delivery.
  • Reduce waste by clarifying goals and improving internal processes related to compositing.
  • Establish quality control standards and approve compositing team output assessing consistency and quality, ensuring all deliveries are in line with technical and creative delivery requirements.
  • Contribute to and lead company wide creative and technical discussion, with a view to raising the quality level of the final image.
  • Supervise compositing training agenda, by identifying areas of potential improvements.
  • Lead by example, be accountable and hold others to account.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 7 years professional experience creating high-end effects for live-action feature films.
  • Expert user of Nuke.
  • Excellent self organisation, communication and crew management skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the VFX pipeline [mono & stereo] covering the entire post-production process.
  • Some experience with creating templates, scripts and tool development.
  • Have a proven record of resolving the most difficult of compositing challenges.
  • Thorough understanding of the math behind comp operations.
  • Able to work in a Linux based operating system using command line tools.
  • Working knowledge of other disciplines such as tracking, layout, environment, effects and lighting as well as other industry standard software such as maya, houdini and 3dequaliser.

Effects Technical Directors (Houdini)


Position Overview


Reporting directly to RSP’s effects leads, you will be responsible for creating wide ranging natural phenomena for a variety of live action feature films. Applicants presenting highly realistic effects work in their portfolio, will be reviewed with priority. RSP is a Houdini based effects facility operating in a Linux system environment. All candidates must be have deep experience with Houdini and be comfortable with Linux.

You are a professional artist who works collaboratively with your team and those working in other departments. You are an excellent time manager and forward thinker who delivers to schedule and to brief. Using Houdini, you have previously been responsible for creating wide ranging naturalistic effects simulation including destruction, water, fire, procedural environments and character effects.

Your ability to own your delivery is highly regarded by your previous supervisors. As a professional effects artist and effects technical director, you provide confidence to the production team because you maintain absolute clarity in what is expected of you. You are the artist who seeks to understand and subsequently nail the brief.



Responsibilities


  • Create and deliver effects; including rigid body dynamics, fluid simulations, cloth simulations and generic particle effects, that match the creative and technical brief.
  • Tightly adhere to production schedule and deliver to key milestones, presenting your work-in-progress daily.
  • Work with animation, lighting & compositing as necessary in order to meet FX animation objectives.
  • Adapt your effects as the brief evolves.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with your own Houdini and Python scripts.
  • Review and QA your work for internal and external delivery ensuring it hits creative and technical notes.
  • Assemble and / or modify complex shaders.

Cloth Technical Director



Position Overview


Reporting directly to the Animation Supervisor, this position will be required to create cloth simulations across a range of 3d assets including digi-doubles, sails, flags, hero vehicles, etc. Your strong understanding of physical movement and the effect of natural environmental forces, ensure your simulations hit the creative brief.

As an accomplished and professional artist, you have excellent animation sensibilities and well developed creative eye. You will have achieved previous success at a number of high profile VFX studios in roles such as Cloth Technical, Character TD, Effects Animator, etc. You are adaptable, in that you can work varying in-house rigging systems. You may be currently creating high-end game cinematics and be looking to extend your career into visual effects.

Demonstrated experience with Maya rigging & animation tools and high end cloth systems is a fundamental pre-requisite for successful applicants.



Responsibilities


  • Deliver dynamic cloth simulations across a wide range of CG assets required for live action footage augmentation & transition.
  • Create & adjust highly adjustable, physically plausible cloth rigs.
  • Work closely with other Cloth TD's Modellers and Animators to achieve prescribed delivery.
  • Demonstrate progress through the regular submission of work in progress and daily updates.
  • Clearly communicate with production any delays or obstacles that may impact your delivery.

Senior Look Dev Artists


Position Overview


Working across a number of live action projects, Look Dev Artists will be required to develop and realise the creative brief, creating the final look of a range of assets. Applicants presenting photo realistic work will be reviewed and responded to with priority.

Your previously held positions are likely to have included Senior Texture Artist, Lighting TD, Shader Writer, etc.



Responsibilities


  • Interpret the visual brief as delivered from the Art Department and Supervisors.
  • Assemble shader networks that meet their creative & technical brief.
  • Adjust existing shaders & Looks as required by sequence supervisors and leads.
  • Work with Lighters to ensure shaders can be rendered without issue.
  • Work within, maintain and update the existing shader library as appropriate.
  • Regularly demonstrate your work in progress.
  • Review your work prior to submission, ensuring it hits creative and technical notes, adjusting where necessary.
  • Communicate with Shader Writers & Texture Artists to ensure a visual outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of colour/bit depth/resolution and how they affect the shader process.
  • Actively mentor and develop less experienced team members.



Required Skills and Experience


  • Minimum 2-4 years Look Development & Lighting experience.
  • Fine art background.
  • Previous experience assembling and modifying shaders & looks in Houdini's VOPS ideal.
  • Strong experience with Physically Based Rendering.
  • Professional user of Houdini and Mantra.
  • Some experience with scripting/programming languages (python, MEL, PERL, C, C++, shell scripting).

Senior VFX Coordinator


Position Overview


Reporting directly to the Production Manager, RSP's Senior VFX Coordinators are an integral part of the company's visual effects success as they drive and monitor asset and shot production to delivery. Your written and oral communication excellence and proactive nature set you apart from others. You take responsibility for your assignments, following up and reporting clearly across multiple VFX disciplines and projects.

Your previous titles may include Line Producing, Senior Coordinating, Production Managing, etc. You are an expert multi-tasker, time manager and communicator.  You are focussed on creating an environment that allows people and teams to quickly reach weekly and rolling deadlines. With a solid work ethic, you represent company values with integrity and honesty, delivering results that exceed expectation.

This role will share joint responsibility for the leadership and management of a small team of coordinators. This position differs from the VFX Coordination positions in that Senior VFX Coordinators schedule and define major milestones with supervisors and leeds. Schedules created will feed into the master resource schedule defined by the Production Manager.



Responsibilities


  • Seeking input from show supervisors, create and set project schedules & deliveries on a departmental and show basis within allocated resources and timeframes.
  • Coordinate and track the progress of deliverables and targets against overall project plans.
  • Communicate variations from the resource plan and propose solutions to the Production Manager.
  • Resolve any impasse between departments, communicating resolutions as necessesary.
  • Accurately update and maintain information systems with a focus on Shotgun.
  • Consistently QA the input and output of more junior coordinators.

Senior Rigger / Character TD


Position Overview


Reporting directly to the Asset Supervisor, the Senior Rigger / Character TD will be required to quickly and accurately create rigs for organic and hard surface models, specifically digital doubles. Your precise work and strong understanding of physical expression and movement allows animators to easily complete believable movement.

As an accomplished and professional rigger, you will have achieved success while working at a number of high profile VFX studios, working with different rigging systems and tools. You are the rigger who is called upon to complete work on digi-double close ups.

Demonstrated experience with Maya is a fundamental pre-requisite for successful applicants.

The strength of your creative eye, excellent communication, collaboration and leadership skills are all highly regarded by your peers. You provide confidence to production you have absolute clarity in what is expected of you and conduct yourself with professionalism.

Responsibilities


  • High Ability to deliver dynamic character solutions for a full range of CG shots plus live action footage augmentation / transitions.

You are an excellent time manager and forward thinker who delivers to schedule and to brief. You have previously been responsible for creating complex composites that incorporate naturalistic effects simulation, environments and matte painting and native live action elements.

Your ability to own your delivery is highly regarded by your previous supervisors. As a professional compositor, you continually provide confidence to your production team through regular updates. You maintain clarity and focus when crunch time hits and know what is expected of you. You maintain a good working relationship with artists that are delivering to you from other departments and are proactive in resolving issues that may delay deliveries.



Responsibilities


  • Create complex multi-layered composites from mixed sources.
  • Use your well-developed understanding of colour space [film formats] and expert eye, to achieve stunning and complex composites.
  • Work with lighting team members as necessary in order to meet compositing objectives.
  • Adapt your comp setups as the brief evolves.
  • Review and QA your work for internal and external delivery ensuring it hits creative and technical notes.
