Lighting T.D

Description


Lighting TD's at Blue Sky Studios create and apply the lighting on individual assigned shots, with the goal of achieving the appropriate aesthetic style as designed by the Director and Art Director. Lighting TDs take shots handed off from the Animation department and shepherd them all the way through the processes of lighting, rendering, and compositing. Lighting TDs are fully responsible for the final look of their shots, a concept we refer to as "shot ownership".

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with Lighting Supervisor, Lighting Leads, and fellow Lighting TDs to obtain Director approval of shots.
  • Design and implement lighting for designated shots, utilizing master lighting rigs, color keys, and direction from Lighting Supervisor and Lighting Leads.
  • Compositing and Rendering of all elements and layers for each shot.
  • Create organized and efficient lighting setups to be rendered in Blue Sky's proprietary renderer CGI Studio

Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation required or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in lighting and compositing.
  • Experience with and understanding of basic lighting concepts.
  • Familiarity with scripting concepts (C-Shell, Perl, Python, RenderMan, MEL and/or similar).
  •  Familiarity with one or more animation package (Maya, Softimage, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience working in a production environment preferred.
  • Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate
  • Ability to manage resources to achieve aesthetic goals on schedule.
  • Strong problem-solving skills


Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Lighting TDs work for a 24/7 Animation Studio: Flexible working hours and overtime are required.
  • Office working environment
  • Walking/bending/sitting/standing






Storyboard Artist 

Description

 
Responsible for translating the screen story into the visual language of cinema. The Storyboard artist's role is to translate scripts from print to visual medium that simply and briefly illustrates the film's key scenes and events, establishes the mood, characters plot, the setting and anything else will help the audience understand the story. Invents and stages action.

Qualifications

 
  • Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Analyze the story/ script
  • Interpreting script pages and sequences into visual presentations.
  • Developing characters and dramatic action scene by scene.
  • Suggesting shooting angles and transitions.
  • Incorporating Director's notes.
  • Working quickly to translate story ideas into visual sequences.
  • Work closely with Director, Art Director and Pre-Production Supervisor to choose the shots and define action.
  • Create Storyboards for the scenes assigned.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Minimum 3 years feature film or television experiences and demonstrated success in like position.

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

  • Strong drawing skills that suggest character and action
  • Understanding of cinematic scene and dramatic structure
  • Understanding of character development
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to analyze scenes in written form and translate into visual product.
  • Ability to express story and character through drawings-to draw characters that are model and express emotion.
  • Ability to invent action and express it through drawing.







Production Assistant

Description

 
The primary role of the Production Assistant is to support the Associate Production Manager and Coordinators in various administrative tasks for the department.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Production Supervisor and Coordinators
  • Managing calendars and scheduling meetings
  • Prepping for meetings (agendas, room set-up, etc.)
  • Assisting with running of meetings (run equipment, etc.)
  • Taking clear, concise notes during meetings and rounds
  • Distributing meeting notes in a timely manner
  • Ordering and picking up lunches/dinners for meetings
  • Photocopying, faxing and shipping

Qualifications

 
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral & interpersonal)
  • Strong organizational and computer skills
  • Excellent time management with the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Ability to anticipate problems
  • Ability to follow through on assignments in a timely manner
  • Mac proficiency, Photoshop, MSWord, Excel, data base entry software, and other software as applicable
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with hard deadlines
  • Must be able to interact with employees at all levels of the company, artistic/creative individuals as well as those in management
