Supervising Digital Matte Painter
These Digital Matte Painting’s may also be used in a 3D environment and may be mapped onto 3D objects. These will eventually be rendered through a variety of off the shelf and proprietary renderers.
It is necessary that the supervising DMP artist has refined skills in creating digital matte paintings from scratch using your talents as a painter. There is also scope to create DMPs using samples from photos, scanned reference or any other artwork necessary to create new objects or to match the surfaces of existing live action. A strong understanding and sympathy for real world materials and lighting is essential and must be demonstrated in the work on your reel. DMP artists may work closely with the compositors, modelling, look-dev and lighting artists and therefore must have a basic knowledge of the practices of each discipline.
The supervising Digital Matte Painter works under the guidance and direction of the Head of 3D commercials, and the project lead. This position also requires guiding a team of 2 digital matte painters on a project by project basis and overall in their development as matte painters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Creating photo-realistic DMPs.
• Supervising a team of 2 matte painters, 1 concept artist with the possibility of this expanding permanently or ad hoc based on project workload.
• Act as a mentor to the commercials matte painting team, aiding them in developing their skills, technical abilities and knowledge.
• Assisting and developing the look of a shot or sequence with the project lead and or director.
• Work alongside the production team to establish schedules and technical requirements.
• Works in partnership with look-dev artists, lighters and compositors to ensure that shots are delivered to the very highest standard.
• Design and construct Maya and Nuke environment scenes to develop and animate the 3D digital matte paintings, according with the visual and technical standards defined with the Environment Lead.
• Check and release the renders, or the Nuke scripts for the comp department to gather.
• Regularly release WIP so that progress on a shot can be assessed.
• Improve his or her knowledge and understanding of MPC's Environment tool set and pipeline.
• Needs to be proactive and fairly autonomous.
• Adequately document Environment practical methods to distribute amongst the DMP / Concept and 3D team.
Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:
• A Senior DMP must have demonstrative experience in creating matte paintings for commercials, TV or feature films.
• Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop.
• Knowledge of traditional art skills and techniques: composition, colour, lighting; drawing, painting, photography.
• Deep understanding of UV texturing and camera mapping techniques.
• Autodesk Maya: Basic knowledge of hard surface modelling and general software interface.
• Good knowledge of The Foundry Nuke (or any other node based compositing software).
• Capacity to work collaboratively with other Matte Painters, Technical Directors and Compositors.
• Excellent learning and communication skills.
• Strong organizational and follow through skills with the ability to handle complex projects within a fast paced, dynamic, deadline driven environment, according to leads and supervisors expectations.
• Creative problem solving.
• Proactive and open to comments and critics approach.
• Proficiency with Eon Vue, Autodesk Mudbox or Pixologic Zbrush is a plus.
Lighting Artist - Senior
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Light and render CG elements to match live-action footage and supervisor direction using MPC's lighting toolset.
- Manage render scenes, elements and assets.
- Composite rendered CG elements and live-action footage for daily progress reviews.
- Technically and creatively maintain consistent shot quality and look as defined by Creative Heads & VFX Supervisors, assisting in this process when required.
- Develop shots in collaboration with the shot Compositor.
- Be part of daily progress reviews to obtain feedback from supervisors.
- Deliver renders according to agreed schedule and specifications.
- Work to improve knowledge of MPC's lighting and rendering pipeline.
Experience & Skills
- Substantial production lighting experience
- Advanced understanding of techniques and technologies related to CG rendering and compositing
- Thorough understanding of production pipelines
- Proven technical and creative ability in a broadcast or feature-film production environment
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of a production renderer, particularly PRMan
- Knowledgeable understanding of linux/unix-based operating systems
- Python and MEL scripting experience an advantage
Lighting Artist - Mid

Nuke Compositor Mid-Senior
The artist will be responsible for putting together visual effects shots, either as part of a team for larger and more complex sequences, or individually on one-off or simpler shots.
The artist should be a team player, taking guidance from the Effects Supervisor, but also be able to work effectively alone.
Primary responsibilities
- Tackling the compositing of shots effectively.
- Delivering final shots that are creatively and technically excellent.
- Previous years experience with Nuke.
- Strong showreel, with clear information to show what was done, and by whom.
- Good understanding of photography and broadcast, and how the interactions of light, lenses and film emulsions go to make up the image.
- Some understanding of the whole digital pipeline.
- Ability to take direction and structure working practice so that design changes can be efficiently made.
