Position : Character Designer


JOB Summary


Character Designer (Feature Animation) will be called upon to explore, create, and execute designs for appealing feature animation characters.

Duties and Responsibilities

The character designer creates characters that articulate the Director’s vision for the production.
Applies expert understanding of character design and needs of the animation process to design memorable, if not iconic characters
Develops character’s looks, personalities, movements and expressions
Designs characters that can be maintained throughout the production
Able to develop “star” characters for the production
Ensures that creative and technical staff have sufficient information about the characters throughout the production process
Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets
Has a unique and leading vision of how art/technology should function and the ability to inspire a wide range of audiences to adopt this vision
Understanding of form, composition, and use of detail
Solid interpersonal and communications skills
Self-managing — organized with good time management. Must be able to identify and meet goals
Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s (BA) degree in Fine Art, Computer Graphics or related field preferred; or equivalent professional experience
Mid-Senior Level experience required (one or more feature film credits in Character Design)
Demonstrates a diversified portfolio
Candidate has a minimum of 5 years of progressively complex related experience

Position : Digital Look Development Artists

Job Summary


Digital Look Development Artists (Feature Animation) are responsible for the creation of Shader networks and principle exploration and defining of texture for use in the production of fully CG animated images. The Digital Look Development Artists are also responsible for collaborating with the Lighting, Shading Writers and Fur teams to create a variety of textural looks and styles as defined by the production’s Art Direction.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Fundamental to the look development strategy of a project in order to support the unique texturing, lighting, fur and rendering requirements that will occur during production.
• Paint textures both from scratch and by utilizing photography and pre-existing textures.
• Creates and maintains desired surface look and feel for characters, props and environments with direction from the Production Designer and/or Art Director.
• Handles the more complex and technically demanding Surfacing setups
• Sets up standard surface textures and readies surface files for lighting.
• Able to implement multiple types of surfaces from simple to difficult.
• Create multiple texture map layers for surfaces and understand how they work and interact with lights in 3D scenes.
• Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets.
• Works with other departments to communicate Surfacing/Look needs (primarily Modeling) and provide for other departments’ needs (primarily Lighting)
• Perform visual and analytical problem solving in 3 dimensional space.
Education and Experience Requirements

• Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience preferred
• Mid-Senior Level experience preferred (one or more feature film credits, Commercial and/or Video Game production), but junior level artist openings will be considered
• Experience with Renderman required
• Good artistic eye for detail with ability to create a fleshed-out look to match various references
• Familiarity with Polygonal and NURBS texturing and UV Layout
• Experience with BodyPaint 3D or comparable 3D paint software
• Detail oriented with ability to handle the complexity of the company pipeline
• Excels in construction of complex shader networks. Ability to debug complex shader networks.
• Openness to existing workflows
• Ability to solve problems independently and take initiative
• Experience with 3D paint packages
• Background in visual arts desired
• Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
• Able to multi-task and prioritize
• Able to thrive in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment
• Enjoy working in teams
• Able to follow directions well
